As part of Asian Contemporary Art Week 2011, Bill Hodges Gallery is proud to present the New York City debut exhibition of emerging artist Nao Tanabe. The opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 6 to 8pm.
Nao’s exhibition brings the concept of neoteny to NYC through her collection of magically romantic acrylic on canvas portraits of physically developed, yet childlike, young females. “Neoteny” quickly developed into the term for describing certain types of Japanese contemporary art since 2009 with the birth of the traveling art exhibition, “Neoteny Japan” featuring works by Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara.
