|The Love Field Airport Modernization Program will renovate and expand Love Field Airport in Dallas, Texas creating a modern facility that will serve the needs of Dallas’ citizens and travelers for many years to come. Renovations include a new centralized concourse, a remodeled lobby, expanded baggage claim area and a new ticketing wing. The renovation plan identifies eleven potential locations for new public art.
- Up to two locations at the Lobby Entrance,
- A focal wall in the Main lobby,
- An exterior garden area off the Main lobby,
- A location at the concessions node at Concourse Level,
- Baggage Claim ceiling area,
- Wall areas in the Ticketing Hall,
- Glass windows at the Arrivals Exit Portal to Baggage Claim,
- Terrazzo floors in east tunnel to Ticketing Hall, west tunnel from Baggage Claim and exit from Mezzanine to parking garage.
The total Art Budget for all projects: $2,625,000. Each location will be assigned a budget. Project locations will be assigned upon the completion of the artist selection process.
PURPOSE OF ARTWORK AT LOVE FIELD TERMINAL
The Public Art Projects at Love Field will address the following goals:
- Focus on themes that support the history, legacy and purpose of the airport. Dallas Love Field is the gateway to Dallas, its art and culture, events and businesses for 7 million passengers annually making Dallas one of the top visitor destinations in Texas;
- Use Public Art to enhance the identity of the Airport;
- Contribute to the public’s positive experience of airport spaces;
- Showcase Public Art to express the vibrant culture of Dallas.
The Love Field Modernization Program will design and construct the main terminal facility and new concourse to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified. Preference will be given to artworks that reflect this goal. Measurement for LEED certification includes the following categories that focus on human and environmental health:
- Sustainable Site Development: Focuses on the impact site selection has on ecosystems and development of sustainable communities.
- Water Efficiency: Focuses on reducing water consumption for building occupants and landscaping.
- Energy and Atmosphere: Focuses on reducing the consumption of energy and encourages the use of energy sources that are not detrimental to the environment.
- Materials and Resources: Focuses on strategies to reduce the impact that building materials have on the environment.
- Indoor Environmental Quality: Focuses on the health and comfort of building occupants. This category encourages improved indoor air quality, controllability of systems, as well as access to daylight and views.
- Artwork must be appropriate for public spaces, meet ADA requirements, be virtually maintenance free, durable, and meet the size, weight and other restrictions for the site where the project will be located.
- At least 25% of the Public Art Projects will be commissioned from artists who are City of Dallas residents.
- Artists are encouraged to demonstrate, in their work, the environmental goals for the new terminal building.
All professional artists are eligible to apply except for artists currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program. Employees of the City of Dallas, their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee, or any consultants under contract for any phase of these projects are ineligible. The City of Dallas Cultural Policy does not accept qualifications from undergraduate students for Public Art projects.
Specific qualifications for this project include:
· Demonstrated successful completion of a public art project of similar size and scope,
· Demonstrated ability to work with a design team to meet the goals for the Love Field Modernization Program,
· Commitment to complete the design, fabrication and installation of the project at the selected location within the budget specified by November 2012.

Interested artists and artist teams should submit the following items to be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010.
1. Portfolio of six (6) images of recent work including recent public art commissions.
2. An image list identifying title, dimensions, materials, date of work, location, project budget, and commissioning entity.
3. Letter of Application outlining your interest in the project and your qualifications for successful completion of the work.
4. Professional resume/curriculum vitae: artist teams may submit a resume for each member. Please include a professional website if available.
5. Three references– names, address, email, and telephone numbers.

SELECTION PROCESS: A panel comprised of arts professionals and community representatives will review qualified submissions in December 2010.
A group of artists will be short-listed and will be requested to provide a site- specific rendering of a work corresponding to a selected location identified by the selection committee.
A project budget for the assigned location will be identified.
Each artist selected will receive a stipend of $3000 to cover the costs producing a 2D rendering for the site assigned. Stipend must cover all costs of the production
of the site-specific rendering, research, travel and materials.
Short-listed artists will be notified in December 2010.
Artists’ renderings will be reviewed by the selection committee to assess how effectively they demonstrate the goals for the Love Field Public Art Program and the stated scope of the Love Field Renovation Plan.
Up to eleven artists or artist-teams will be awarded contracts to develop and finalize proposals for the assigned locations.
Review of site-specific proposals by the Public Art Committee, and the Cultural Affairs Commission will take place.
Spring/Summer 2011: Review by the Dallas City Council will take place and contracts will be finalized for each location.
Final project budgets will vary according to the scope of each project.
November 2012-All projects must be completely installed and ready for public opening.
