Selected among thousands of photographers from all over the world, Dilip Bhatia, Larry Louie, Tom Atwood, John Delaney, Antonio Bolfo, David Zimmerman, Tom Chambers, Navid Baraty, and Lorne Resnick were the main awardees in the 2009 WPGA Annual Competition. Now this second edition offers new and outstanding recognition opportunities for professional and non professional photographers worldwide.
WPGA is committed to discover and distinguish new talents as well as to acknowledge established artists. Be part of the group of photographers that are shifting the world of photography: enter your images to one of the most challenging and rewarding photographic competitions. Past and current WPGA competitions were (or are being) judged by leading photographers, curators, and publishers: Mary Ellen Mark, Chris Steele-Perkins, Carol McCusker, Rosanna Checchi, Olivia Arthur, Susan Zadeh, Tim Anderson, Brooke Jensen, Stephen Perloff, Roy Flukinger, Vanessa Winship, Kim Weston, Paul Cava, Per Valentin, Alexander Scholz, GMB Akash, Alessandra Sanguinetti, and Reid Callaham.
Section and Genres: Professional, non Professional and Students will compete separately in three different sections in this second edition. There will be 25 categories in each section, and each category will have two genres: single image, and series or portfolios. Each genre will be judged as a different category to encourage a broad spectrum of submissions.

Judging: In each genre of every category of the different sections the Artistic Advisory Board will select 10 finalists, which will be announced online. Those finalists will participate in the final selection which will be done by Philip Brookman, Senior Curator of the Corcoran Gallery, Washington DC.
Juror bio: Philip Brookman is Director of Curatorial Affairs of the Corcoran Gallery of Art ( Corcoran College of Art & Design, Washington). His recent exhibitions include Sally Mann: What Remains; Robert Frank: London/Wales; Emmet Gowin: Changing the Earth; Media/Metaphor: The 46th Biennial Exhibition; Half Past Autumn: The Art of Gordon Parks; Raised by Wolves: Photographs and Documents by Jim Goldberg; Hospice: A Photographic Inquiry; The Way Home: Ending Homelessness in America; Arnold Newman: Breaking Ground; and Arthur Tress: Fantastic Voyage, Photographs 1956-2000. A writer, editor, filmmaker and photographer, he has recently written essays on artists Henri Cartier-Bresson and William Christenberry for The Washington Post Magazine, a script for a feature film with Jim Goldberg and numerous catalogue essays. Mr. Brookman received degrees in 20th Century Art History and Fine Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Professional: WPGA 2010 Professional Photographer of the Year, US$ 5,000 cash prize
The awarded images of the 3 sections (Professionals, Amateurs, and Students) and of the recipient of the Humanitarian Grant, as well as those of the first prize winners of the 25 categories (in single image and portfolio) will be exhibited in Madrid at the Circle of Fine Arts, being the artist reception coincidental with the Awards Ceremony to be held in November 2010, where the Pollux Awards will be presented. The overall winners of the competition and the all awardees (first, second and third prize) of both genres (single image and series or portfolio) of the 25 categories of the three sections will be published in the Book 2010 WPGA Annual.
